I was incredibly honoured to be asked to judge this year's masquerade-themed Ely Hero Awards, an event that celebrates the amazing individuals who go above and beyond in our local community. The evening was truly spectacular, filled with heartwarming stories, celebrations, and a few emotional moments (glad I had waterproof mascara on!) that reminded us all of the power of community spirit.
The Maltings in Ely was transformed into a glittering venue, with stunning audio and visual production creating an atmosphere that was both elegant and vibrant. From the beautifully decorated tables to the exciting charity auction, every detail was meticulously planned to ensure a memorable experience for all attendees.
One of the highlights of the evening was the charity auction, which raised an impressive £890 for the Highfield School PTA. The auction featured a range of unique items, including a 1966 World Cup signed photo and film memorabilia donated by generous local businesses.
As a judge, having the opportunity to speak with the nominees and hear their remarkable stories was both inspiring and humbling. The task of choosing a winner was never easy—each nominee brought their own unique and moving tale of kindness, courage, and dedication. It’s a reminder of the incredible work being done by so many, often behind the scenes, to make our community a better place for all.
The Ely Hero Awards continues to shine a spotlight on these local heroes, and it was a true privilege to play a part in recognising their achievements.
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners—your stories are a source of inspiration and strength to us all!
