We pounded the streets for days in all weathers; sometimes with a shouty baby and sometimes without. We trudged the centre of Cambridge, drove all round outer Cambridge in heavy traffic, and even travelled over to Cambourne and just outside Huntingdon.
We assessed, we questioned, we pretended to be interested in products we (possibly) had no immediate use for (I am thinking anti-gravity pens). We over-ate in cafes in the name of research and hid round corners to lean up against walls and dumpsters to secretly fill in our evaluation forms after each visit.
It’s hard work is mystery shopping. Great fun definitely, but not a glamorous swan about that some of our friends and other customers assumed that it may have been!
The mystery shop was for the Customer Charter Awards from city centre partnership Love Cambridge. They aim to improve the city and attract more visitors – both tourists and shoppers. The shops and other businesses were assessed on their appearance, staff and service, product advice and town centre knowledge.
The awards ceremony was held in Cambridge on September the 14th and trophies and certificates presented by Cambridge mayor, Cllr Sheila Stuart.
Huge congratulations to the winners of the awards:
Boudoir Femme, Granta Punting and Bellanapoli Cafe,
and also the runners up:
Christian Science Reading Room, Doubletree Hilton, Sandra Jane and Wesley Barrell.
We experienced excellent levels of customer services from the winners and runners up and hope they inspire other businesses to follow their leads!
